BRIEF

The client wanted to downsize and move closer to the city centre having previously owned 10 acres in the Perth hills. They wanted a home that they could “lock and leave” when they headed down South. Importantly they wanted the appearance of more space while still being on a small block.

DESIGN

Given the location of the block, across from the Swan River, it was important to maximise the views. The upside down living was the best way to do this with the windows and balcony overlooking the river and the park directly opposite. On the ground floor the positioning of the windows brings the garden into the house with plenty of natural light.

CONSTRUCTION

One of the biggest challenges for this build was addressing the client’s preference for a front elevation incorporating flat skillion style roofs, which was contrary to the local area design guidelines. With some great design work and clever construction we were able to successfully get planning approval for a contemporary style elevation, while complying with the local regulations.
